Arion Unveils "Burning In The Skies" From New Album "The Light That Burns The Sky"

Finnish melodic metal band Arion has released their latest single, "Burning In The Skies", from their highly anticipated fourth studio album "The Light That Burns The Sky". The album, set to be released on February 28, 2025, through Reigning Phoenix Music, showcases the band's evolution and musical prowess.

"Burning In The Skies" exemplifies Arion's signature sound, blending melodic elements with powerful metal instrumentation. The song features thunderous drumming, harsh riffs, and significant keyboard tunes, all complemented by lead vocalist Lassi Vääränen's captivating vocals. Songwriter and guitarist Iivo Kaipainen describes the track as "a beautiful melody and a beautiful lyrical theme wrapped in a tough metal coating," exploring themes of heartbreak and resilience.

Arion, formed in 2011, has steadily built their reputation in the Finnish metal scene. The band's lineup consists of Lassi Vääränen on vocals, Iivo Kaipainen on guitars, Gege Velinov on bass, Arttu Vauhkonen on keyboards, and Topias Kupiainen on drums. Their journey began with their debut song "Lost" in Finland's Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, which garnered nationwide attention.

"The Light That Burns The Sky" marks a significant milestone in Arion's career. The album features collaborations with renowned artists, including a duet with Melissa Bonny on the track "Wings of Twilight". Other singles from the album include "Like The Phoenix I Will Rise" and "Blasphemous Paradise", showcasing the band's versatility and growth.

Arion's musical style has evolved since their inception, moving from power metal to a more modern sound that incorporates elements of American and British heavy metal3. This evolution is evident in their previous albums, including "Vultures Die Alone" (2021) and "Life Is Not Beautiful" (2018).

The band's commitment to their craft is reflected in the production of "The Light That Burns The Sky". The album was produced and mixed by Matias Kupiainen of Stratovarius, with additional collaboration from sound engineers Jacob Hansen and Dan Lancaster. This collaborative effort has resulted in a polished and dynamic sound that pushes the boundaries of melodic metal.

As Arion prepares to embark on their 2025 touring cycle, including co-headline shows with Brainstorm and performances alongside Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica, they continue to solidify their position as rising stars in the melodic metal scene. With "The Light That Burns The Sky", Arion demonstrates their ability to create powerful, emotionally resonant music that appeals to both long-time fans and newcomers to the genre.
