BRAT Unleashes Metal-Infused Cover of Heart's "Barracuda" Featuring Sammy Duet
New Orleans-based "bimbo violence" outfit BRAT has dropped a blistering cover of Heart's 1977 classic "Barracuda" on January 15, 2025, featuring guest appearances by Sammy Duet of Goatwhore and Acid Bath fame. This powerviolence rendition breathes new life into the iconic rock anthem, transforming it into a relentless assault of grinding riffs and guttural vocals.
The cover arrives less than a year after BRAT's debut album "Social Grace" and showcases the band's evolution as they prepare for their first European and UK tour. Vocalist Liz Selfish's harsh delivery, coupled with the band's signature blend of death metal and hardcore, gives "Barracuda" a fresh, abrasive edge that pays homage to the original while firmly planting it in BRAT's unique sonic territory.
BRAT explains their choice to cover the track: "We wanted to pay tribute to Heart as the original bad bitches of rock, and we thought the opening riff of Barracuda would sound great played even heavier. We've played the song live many times and people have really seemed to connect with it". This statement underscores the band's respect for rock history while asserting their own aggressive musical identity.
BRAT's "Barracuda" serves as a prelude to their upcoming tour with Napalm Death, Crowbar, and Full of Hell, kicking off on February 5, 2025, in Oberhausen, Germany. This extensive European and UK tour, dubbed the "Campaign For Musical Destruction," will see BRAT bringing their unique brand of "Barbiegrind" to international audiences.
