Grand Magus Announces New Concept Album "Sunraven," Inspired by Beowulf, Releasing October 2024

Swedish heavy metal band Grand Magus is set to release their tenth full-length album, "Sunraven," on October 18, 2024, via Nuclear Blast Records. The album, which includes the title track "Sunraven," marks the band's first concept album, drawing inspiration from the Old English epic poem Beowulf.

"Sunraven" explores themes of heroes and monsters, honor and bravery, victory and defeat, all rooted in the legendary Beowulf narrative. The album was produced by the band in collaboration with co-producer Staffan Karlsson, featuring a gritty yet grandiose production style that complements the epic nature of its source material.

This release signifies a return to the heavy metal might characteristic of Grand Magus' previous albums "Wolf God" and "Sword Songs," while incorporating a deeper narrative structure. The conceptual approach adds a new layer of depth to the band's established sound.

To support the release of "Sunraven," Grand Magus has announced several live performances. The band is scheduled to appear at the Brutal Assault festival in Jaromer, Czech Republic on August 7, 2024, followed by an appearance at Bloodstock in Walton On Trent, UK on August 9. They will then perform at the Midgard Vikingsenter and Midgardsblot Festival in Horten, Norway on August 14. Later in the year, Grand Magus is set to play at Metal Hammer Paradise in Weißenhäuser Strand, Germany on November 22-23, 2024.

Grand Magus, formed in Stockholm in 1996, has been a prominent force in the heavy metal scene for over 25 years. Known for their authentic approach to the genre, the band has consistently toured and released critically acclaimed albums throughout their career. "Sunraven" continues their tradition of crafting powerful and thematic heavy metal music.
