Harper Releases Latest Metalcore Single "Thorn In My Side"
Harper, the 13-year-old metalcore sensation, has unleashed her latest track, "Thorn In My Side", marking a powerful evolution in her emerging career. Released on February 21, 2025, this aggressive anthem showcases the young artist's exceptional ability to transform raw emotion into compelling metalcore.
The new single delivers a scathing critique of the current state of the world, with Harper explaining, "Thorn In My Side was written when there just seemed to be a lot of bad things happening in the world. Whenever I'd be in the car and the news came on the radio or even watching TV there was just nothing positive happening". This frustration with the constant barrage of negative news and scaremongering is evident in the song's dark lyrics and intense vocal delivery.
Harper's musical journey began at a remarkably young age. She first gained attention in 2021 at just 9 years old with her cover of Spiritbox's "Holy Roller", which garnered over 300,000 YouTube views. Her appearance on America's Got Talent further catapulted her into the spotlight, with her performance receiving 3.1 million YouTube views. Since then, Harper has been steadily building her career, releasing several singles and collaborating with established artists in the metal scene.
In 2022, Harper released her debut single "Falling", which has since accumulated over 1M Spotify plays. She followed this with other successful releases, including "Weight Of The World" in 2023, which featured a guest vocal from Dave Stephens of We Came As Romans. Her recent singles "Bird In A Cage" and "I Hope You Choke" further solidified her place in the metalcore scene.
Harper's musical background is deeply rooted in metal, influenced significantly by her stepdad, Ben Lumber, the frontman of post-hardcore band Acres. This early exposure to the genre has clearly shaped her musical direction and vocal style.
In June 2024, Harper made history as the youngest performer ever to take the stage at the legendary Download Festival. This milestone performance not only marked her first live show but also demonstrated her ability to hold her own alongside much more experienced artists.
With "Thorn In My Side", Harper continues to push her vocal abilities, stating, "I'm still learning so much about my voice and what it can do, so it's been really fun challenging myself to become a better vocalist". This dedication to her craft, combined with her natural talent and the support of industry professionals, positions Harper as a rising star in the metalcore scene, with a bright future ahead of her.
