Lacuna Coil Unveils New Single "Gravity," Ahead of Latest Album "Sleepless Empire"

Lacuna Coil, Italian gothic metal band, has released their new single "Gravity" on January 9, 2025. This track is the fifth single from their upcoming album "Sleepless Empire," which is set to be released on February 14, 2025, via Century Media Records.

"Gravity" explores themes of resilience and the inevitability of fate, delivering an important message about navigating through difficult times. The band describes the song as a reflection on how we deal with tough situations, whether we seek help or isolate ourselves. The single is accompanied by a striking music video that visually enhances the song's themes.

"Sleepless Empire" is described by the band as a reflection of the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world, where social media consumes identity and pushes people towards becoming "soulless zombies". The album comprises 11 tracks, each serving as a richly textured soundtrack to a specific time and place. It features guest appearances from Randy Blythe of Lamb of God and Ash Costello of New Years Day, adding new dimensions to Lacuna Coil's sound.

Lacuna Coil's musical journey began when vocalist Andrea Ferro and bassist/composer Marco Coti Zelati formed a band called Sleep of Right in 1994. The band went through several name changes, including Ethereal, before settling on Lacuna Coil, which means "empty spiral" in Italian. Cristina Scabbia joined the band in 1996, initially singing background vocals before becoming a full-time member.

The band's sound has evolved significantly since their early days. They started with a gothic rock-influenced style, drawing inspiration from bands like The Sisters of Mercy and The Fields of the Nephilim. Over time, they developed their signature sound, characterized by the dynamic interplay between Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro's vocals, combined with heavy guitar riffs and atmospheric elements.

Throughout their career, Lacuna Coil has been known for their ability to blend gothic, groove, and alternative metal elements. They have sold over two million albums worldwide and have been recognized with several awards, including the 2012 Metal Female Voices Fest Award for Best Album and the 2018 Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best Live Act.
