Lycanthrope Releases Latest Track "Wither," a Powerful Anthem of Resilience
Lycanthrope, the Newcastle-based melodic metalcore band, has made a striking return to the music scene with their powerful new single "Wither," released in February 2025, an empowering metal anthem exploring themes of resilience and personal triumph. Sharing the inspiration behind the song, the band has explained "To find yourself experiencing a tragedy that can shake your life’s foundations, but with resilience, determination and self-belief, you press on to overcome your obstacles...." A message of hope that resonates with listeners.
"Wither" marks Lycanthrope's first release since their 2023 EP "Hydra" and its subsequent bonus tracks in 2024. The new single showcases the band's musical growth, featuring a fusion of heavy breakdowns, soaring clean vocals, and electronic elements that complement their signature sound. Recorded and produced with Mark Williamson at Keywork Audio, "Wither" demonstrates Lycanthrope's commitment to refining their craft while staying true to their roots.
Founded in 2011 by guitarist Aidan Lee and vocalist Dan Greig, Lycanthrope has evolved significantly over the years. The band's current lineup includes six members, allowing for a rich, layered sound that incorporates three guitarists. This expanded lineup has contributed to Lycanthrope's distinctive style, which blends melodic metalcore with elements of modern metal and djent.
Lycanthrope's musical journey has been marked by continuous evolution. Their discography includes their debut EP "Revival" (2015), which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year, and their first full-length album "Chapters" (2018). The band has drawn inspiration from a diverse range of influences, citing artists from classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin to modern metal acts.
As Lycanthrope looks to the future, they have hinted at more new music on the horizon. The band is currently working on their next album, with plans to begin recording soon. They have also teased a special celebration for the 10-year anniversary of "Revival," suggesting a busy and exciting year ahead for the band and their fans.
With "Wither," Lycanthrope continues to solidify their position in the Australian metal scene, demonstrating their ability to create music that is both heavy and emotionally resonant. As they prepare for their return to live performances in the latter half of 2025, fans can anticipate a powerful showcase of both new material and reimagined classics from this dynamic and evolving band.
