Mammoth Grinder releases 'Obsessed With Death' from EP 'Undying Spectral Resonance'
Mammoth Grinder has breathed new life into their track "Obsessed With Death" as part of their latest EP, "Undying Spectral Resonance," released on November 15, 2024, via Relapse Records. This reimagined version serves as the powerful closer to the five-track EP, marking the band's return after a six-year hiatus.
Originally released in 2010, "Obsessed With Death" has been re-recorded and revamped for the new EP. The 2024 version maintains the song's aggressive core while incorporating the band's evolved sound. Described as "perhaps the most energizing track on the release," it showcases Mammoth Grinder's ability to blend modern, straightforward death metal with their punk and hardcore roots.
Chris Ulsh, the band's founder, performed all instruments and vocals on this new rendition, as he did for the entire EP. The track features d-beat rhythms and allows the band to fully embrace their punk and hardcore influences, creating a fitting finale for the EP.
"Obsessed With Death" fits seamlessly into the EP's overall theme, which explores dark concepts of supernatural energy retention. The song, along with the rest of "Undying Spectral Resonance," draws inspiration from bands like Demigod, Dismember, and Asphyx, resulting in a potent mix of punk-infused old-school death metal.
The inclusion of this reimagined track on the new EP serves multiple purposes. It provides a link to the band's earlier work, showcases their musical evolution, and offers fans a fresh take on a familiar favorite. As the closing track, "Obsessed With Death" leaves listeners with a powerful reminder of Mammoth Grinder's enduring impact on the extreme metal scene.
"Undying Spectral Resonance," featuring this new version of "Obsessed With Death," is now available on all major streaming platforms and through Relapse Records.
