NOVELISTS Launches New Era with Double Singles "Coda" and "K.O."
On December 11, 2024, French progressive metalcore band NOVELISTS unveiled two new singles, "Coda" and "K.O.," marking a significant milestone in their musical journey. These tracks are part of a new chapter for the band, now signed to the label ACKOR, which was founded by members of LANDMVRKS and NOVELISTS themselves.
"Coda" is a high-energy track that packs a powerful punch, accompanied by an official music video directed by Pavel Trebukhin. The song features intense riffs, complex drum patterns, and the powerful vocals of Camille Contreras, the band's new lead vocalist. Contreras, who joined the band in September 2023, brings a fresh and dynamic energy to NOVELISTS' sound.
In contrast, "K.O." showcases the band's ability to craft soaringly melodic tracks. When asked about the double-single, NOVELISTS explained, "We imagined ‘Coda’ and ‘K.O.’ almost as a mini-album where instead of getting a single track without context, people would get to listen to a wider range of our music and get a better understanding of where we want to go with that album right from the first releases. The heavy-catchy ‘Coda,’ followed by a more emotional and deeper ‘K.O.’".
Both tracks were written, produced, mixed, and mastered by the band members themselves. "Coda" delves into themes of societal collapse and the loss of faith, with lyrics that reflect on the end of a world that once offered hope and something to live for. The song's message is one of urgency and desperation, capturing the band's ability to blend intense music with profound lyrical content.
NOVELISTS, formed in 2013 by brothers Amael and Florestan Durand, has undergone several lineup changes over the years. The current lineup includes Camille Contreras on vocals, Florestan Durand and Pierre Danel on guitars, Nicolas Delestrade on bass, and Amael Durand on drums. This lineup has brought new life to the band, with Contreras's vocals adding a unique dimension to their sound.
