Pentagram's "Dull Pain" Showcases Doom Metal Mastery on New Album
Legendary doom metal pioneers Pentagram have unveiled their latest single "Dull Pain," a powerful track from their highly anticipated 10th studio album "Lightning In A Bottle," set for release on January 31, 2025, via Heavy Psych Sounds.
"Dull Pain" was written during one of two writing sessions conducted by guitarist Tony Reed and drummer Henry Vasquez for the new album. Reed describes the track as "the closest to having the early Pentagram sound" among the new songs. The writing process showcased the immediate musical connection between Reed and frontman Bobby Liebling, with Liebling quickly nailing the vocals using his lyric book.
"Lightning In A Bottle" marks Pentagram's third studio release in the last 15 years, signifying a notable return for the band. The album features a revamped lineup, including founding frontman Bobby Liebling, guitarist/producer Tony Reed, drummer Henry Vasquez, and bassist Scooter Haslip.
Recorded with Reed at the helm and mixed by Phillip Cope, "Lightning In A Bottle" is described as recalling the best of what has allowed Pentagram to cast an influence across decades. The tracks are noted for their ability to evoke past glories without reliving them, maintaining the band's singular force despite their long history.
