Retromorphosis Debuts Innovative Cosmic Horror Track 'The Tree'

Swedish death metal outfit Retromorphosis has made waves in the metal scene with their latest single "The Tree," released on January 8, 2025. This track, the second single from their upcoming debut album "Psalmus Mortis," showcases the band's unique approach to cosmic horror themes within the technical death metal genre.

"The Tree" springs to life with guitarist Jonas Bryssling's signature crunching riffs, quickly branching into freshly rotted rhythmic offshoots. The song features mind-bending leads and a splintering, white-hot solo that pushes the boundaries of technical proficiency. New drummer KC Howard, formerly of Decrepit Birth, adds a seismic quality to the track with his intense performance.

For "Psalmus Mortis," Retromorphosis collaborated with Swedish engineer Magnus Sedenberg, aiming for a raw production style reminiscent of early '90s death metal3. The track features an unexpected element: a glowing bed of organ that shrouds "The Tree" in an alien chill, adding to its eerie atmosphere.

Retromorphosis emerged from the ashes of the technical death metal band Spawn of Possession, which disbanded in 2017. The new group features former members of renowned acts such as Obscura and Necrophagist, bringing a wealth of experience to their innovative sound.
