Saetia Returns: New 'Tendrils' EP Marks First Release in 26 Years

Influential New York City-based screamo pioneers Saetia have broken their 26-year silence with the release of "Tendrils," the title track from their upcoming three-song EP. Released on January 3, 2025, "Tendrils" marks the band's first new material since their 1999 single "Eronel" .

The "Tendrils" EP, set for digital release by the end of March with physical copies available from April 25, represents a significant milestone in Saetia's discography 1. The band is self-releasing the EP, pressing 1,000 copies on black vinyl (one-sided 12"), available for pre-order through Deathwish Inc.

"Tendrils" showcases Saetia's signature style, balancing intense, angular guitar work with raw vocals that mix shouted passages and quieter moments. The track maintains the urgent sound that defined their early material while incorporating contemporary polish, hinting at the band's personal and stylistic growth .

The EP's creation was a collaborative effort, sparked by bassist Colin Bartoldus's idea in December 2023. The band developed the songs through file sharing and rehearsals across various U.S. locations . Saetia's current lineup features Billy Werner (vocals), Adam Marino (guitar), Colin Bartoldus (bass), Steve Roche (drums), and Tom Schlatter (guitar/vocals).

This release follows Saetia's recent return to live performances, including reunion shows in 2022 and an opening slot for Blood Brothers in December . The band's brief but impactful run from 1997 to 1999 played a crucial role in shaping the dramatic and unpredictable intensity characteristic of the screamo genre.

The remaining two tracks from the EP, "Three Faces Past" and "Corkscrew Spine," are scheduled for release in February and March, respectively . Saetia will also offer special limited versions of the EP with alternate covers and colored vinyl at their NYC and LA record release shows .
