SiM Releases "CHAMPiONS," the Official Theme for Apex Legends Global Series Year 4 Championship
SiM, the Japanese alternative metal band formed in 2004, has once again demonstrated their musical versatility with the release of "CHAMPiONS" on February 19, 2025. This electrifying track serves as the official anthem for the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Year 4 Championship, marking a significant milestone as the first-ever official theme song for the prestigious esports event.
Under EMI Records' banner, "CHAMPiONS" represents another significant achievement for the Japanese rock powerhouse. The band delivered a powerful world premiere performance of the song at the ALGS Championship venue in Sapporo, Japan, on February 1, 2025, making history as the first artist to perform live at an ALGS event, and building anticipation for its official release.
The band, known for their unique blend of heavy metal, reggae, hip-hop, and punk elements, has consistently pushed the boundaries of genre since their inception. SiM's current lineup consists of MAH on vocals, SHOW-HATE on guitar, SIN on bass, and GODRi on drums. Their musical style, characterized by rebellious lyrics and a fusion of diverse genres, has earned them a dedicated following both in Japan and internationally.
SiM's musical journey began in the Shonan area of Kanagawa Prefecture, where they were influenced by the local surfing culture and its associated reggae and punk scenes. MAH, the band's founder, explains their eclectic style: "Why not play both reggae and punk while we're still young! That's how the band SiM was born". This unique approach to music has allowed them to create a sound that resonates with a diverse audience.
The band's trajectory has been remarkable, highlighted by their 2023 sixth studio album "PLAYDEAD" and its breakthrough single "The Rumbling," which claimed the top spot on Billboard's Hot Hard Rock Songs chart after featuring as the opening theme for the anime "Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2".
The band is now celebrating their 20th anniversary with the expansive '20YEARS TOUR,' commencing May 2025 across nine Japanese cities. The band's annual DEAD POP FESTiVAL 2025 is set to rock Kawasaki, Japan, on June 28-29.
