Venamoris Releases New Single "Truth" From Upcoming Album "To Cross Or To Burn"
Venamoris, the musical duo comprising legendary drummer Dave Lombardo and his wife, singer-songwriter Paula Lombardo, has unveiled their latest single, "Truth," from their forthcoming album "To Cross Or To Burn". Released on February 5, 2025, the track is the final preview of their sophomore album, set to be released on February 28, 2025, via Ipecac Recordings.
"Truth" explores themes of self-reflection and personal growth, with Paula Lombardo describing it as "an ode to past mistakes and patterns we repeat until the lessons finally take hold". The song blends hypnotic melodies with cinematic, John Barry-inspired soundscapes, creating a darkly romantic atmosphere that has become characteristic of Venamoris' sound.
Dave Lombardo, known for his groundbreaking work with Slayer, Fantômas, Testament, Mr. Bungle, Misfits, and Dead Cross, brings his extensive musical experience to this project. He not only plays drums but also contributes guitar, bass, and production techniques, showcasing his versatility as a musician. Paula Lombardo, who began her musical career at 18 as a backing singer for Las Vegas icon Wayne Newton, brings her impressive vocal prowess and skills on piano and synthesizers to the duo.
The new track "Truth" follows the release of several singles throughout 2024 and early 2025, including "In The Shadows," "Spiderweb," and a cover of Scorpions' "Animal Magnetism," the latter of which featuring a guest appearance from former Slayer bandmate, Gary Holt.
Venamoris' music represents a significant departure from Dave Lombardo's metal roots, embracing a darker, more introspective sound that Paula describes as having "an overall vibe of heaviness that was unexpected". The project, founded in 2021, combines Paula's songwriting and vocals with Dave's production and instrumental skills, creating a unique blend of dark pop and atmospheric rock.
As they prepare for the release of "To Cross Or To Burn," Venamoris continues to push boundaries and explore new musical territories, solidifying their position as an innovative and emotionally charged musical force in the contemporary music scene.
